Specs Overload

Specs Overload

July 6, 2023

I felt the full weight of every specification pressing on my mind as our planning deepened. It was strange to juggle excitement with overwhelm, especially since I couldn’t share my doubts with any builder 🤔.

The building permit was still with a council clerk, and the surveyor who submitted the project provided only infrequent, vague updates. As a result, rather than have my site engineer run contractor visits in my absence the previous month, I decided to conduct them myself during my usual August trip to Puglia 🗓️.

Most firms were already booked well into 2024, so postponing those visits by a month only worsened our schedule. On the positive side, the extra time let me spend evenings and weekends poring over the computo metrico and refining specs—even if many decisions still hung in the balance 📊✏️.

During coffee-break chats at the office I ran ideas past colleagues, and outside work hours I alternated between sketches and checklists. Though progress felt slow and uncertain, each small decision nudged the project forward ☕🗒️.
